Mono Lake is outside the boundaries of Yosemite National Park.  After driving Tioga Road across the Sierra Nevada Mountains it's a few more miles to the lake.

"Tufa towers" are calcium-carbonate spires and knobs formed by the interaction of freshwater springs and alkaline lake water.

A strange place.
